Brand University of Applied Sciences brings Design, Management and strong characters from both disciplines together. In my current role as Senior Designer with MUTABOR I have been profiting from such interdisciplinary training. It’s helpful in conceptualizing Design as something identity-oriented, in steering design processes efficiently and in finding answers to the challenging questions posed by digitalization.

Marketing is a blend of science and art. Now, as a Branding Creative with Iconic, it is safe to say that I possess a mixture of both. I had joined Brand University of Applied Sciences as a design graduate with practical experience, but left with strategic experience and innovative thinking. One can be good at creating a design, but a failure at communicating it. BU managed to fill this gap by enabling me to oversee my designs and to drift into a wider scope where insights and visuals meet strategically and creatively.

People were extremely important to me during my studies – and they still are in my current job as Analyst with management consultancy Ayudantes. By “people” I specifically mean mentors who impress me and motivate me to learn from them. BU has some truly inspiring personalities who taught me a lot, not just with regards to knowledge and skills but also as a human being.

Compared to my studies in China, learning was a completely different experience at BU. The teaching methods were very practice-oriented and we had plenty of opportunities to work on real-life business tasks. Moreover, the intercultural environment gave me a fresh perspective on design and brand communication. In sum, my studies not only played an important role in preparing me for my current job as Designer and Brand Consultant at Brandway, but also in winning a German Design Award 2018.

My time at BU had its ups and downs. Still, studying here was absolutely the right decision because my education provided the perfect stepping stone for my current career in digital strategy at interone. Thanks to BU’s focus on practical application, its holistic approach and its lecturers – who command an impressive level of knowledge and experience – I learned a lot. Especially the practice projects and near-weekly presentations facilitated my entry into the job world and as a result I was able to hit the ground running.

Thanks to a great variety of study modules at Brand Academy I was able to gain a broad overview, which in turn enabled me to find out what I am really interested in. I was particularly fascinated by interaction design and was able to dive deep into it as part of my thesis. I’m now studying Virtual Reality Development at Udacity (Silicon Valley). VR scenes, VR software development (C#), VR design, high immersion unity and 360 mobile performance are all part of the nanodegree programme. I will graduate as a VR developer.

Despite being off to a rocky start and frequent fits of frustration given the substantial workload, I have learned a lot of new, useful and most of all practice-oriented things at BU. I was able to expand quite a bit on what I had learned during my previous vocational training in marketing communications. After graduation, I immediately took the position of CMO with ZANUM GmbH & Co. KG. Aside from day-to-day marketing activities (social media, events, SEM etc.) my key task is the acquisition of investors and partnerships.

I love to think back to my time at Brand University of Applied Sciences. My studies in Brand Design did not only provide me with a profound understanding of design and brands, but also helped me find valuable contacts and friends, some of whom are now my coworkers. I am Art Director at Ben&Jan, an agency I founded with a fellow graduate. Our portfolio includes brand and visual design, social media strategy and design concepts for business premises. I also lecture in experimental poster design at Design Factory, work as an artist and am a member of the art and design collective Der6teLachs.

I have never regretted studying Brand Management, because it was simply the perfect supplement to my previous vocational training programme in Brand Communication. During my studies I was able to collect various additional practical experiences. After one of my student temp assignments, XING kept me on as Junior Digital Communications Manager. By now I am a Consultant with pilot group. What I particularly appreciate about Brand University of Applied Sciences is the direct and intensive exchange with the lecturers and professors. It represents both challenge and support at the same time.

BU’s practical orientation and focus on innovation represented the perfect environment for my professional and personal development. My diverse experiences created a lasting basis for all subsequent steps: insights into international organisations, my Master’s studies at Oxford Brookes University and my current position as Brand Manger with Mars Petcare Europe. Still, much more important were the friendships I was able to build during my three years at BU!

Thanks to BU’s international orientation I already realised during my Bachelor studies in Brand Management that I wish to pursue an international career. After graduating from a Master’s programme in the U.S., I started working as an Account Manager at Google Europe. I now support agencies in successfully implementing all sorts of online marketing campaigns. The knowledge of Brand Management and the relationships between agencies and their clients I acquired at Brand University of Applied Sciences has proven particularly valuable for my job.

With a Bachelor’s degree in my pocket I moved to Brasil for a perfect career start as Brand Manager. At Mucca we are busy developing the online shopping platform ma.gnolia.com for the German market. I am responsible for the entire Web presence as well as search engine optimization. BU’s holistic approach to brand management and the practical experience I gained through practice projects keep proving to be valuable sources of knowledge and energy.

I’m currently working as Online Marketing Manager at Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. That means I’m responsible for guiding a traditional luxury brand into the digital age. I think back fondly to my time at Brand University of Applied Sciences. The advantages of a small campus and small seminar groups are really paying off now. The practically-aligned and interactive lectures were especially helpful to me in my development.

Brand Academy was the stepping stone to my international career. After learning the ins and outs of brand-driven, strategic communications I moved to the Silicon Valley and became a Digital Marketing Specialist. In the fast moving technology and startup world, my background clearly differentiates me from my peers. A mere 1.5 years after graduation I am already responsible for a premium brand.
