Open Space 2020 at Designxport

On October 5th, after the welcoming program for first semester students on the campus of the BU, another event awaited the Brand Design students for the kick-off of the semester: Open Space 2020.

Every year at the start of the semester, design students of all classes come together with Prof. Michael Jonas and Prof. Ansgar Eidens to take a look at the semester ahead of them and to set the direction together.

This year’s Open Space took place in a special and above all spacious location: The Designxport welcomed our designers in the HafenCity.

The professors wanted to know from the students: What do you want to learn during your studies? Which skills do you consider the most important in 2026+? The evening was literally colorful, as the questions were answered on Post-Its.

To leave the university’s internal perspective aside, guests were invited to the second part of the evening. After a greeting by Annika Fitz from Designxport, Maximilian Schöngen, Global Creative Strategist and Member of the Creative Board at Serviceplan, and Prof. Stefan Wölwer, Professor for Interaction Design and Design Researcher at Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaft und Kunst, took the microphone for a small panel discussion.

The discussion focused on the practice and future of the creative industry – and the expectations and questions of our students. Despite the exceptional global situation, Maximilian Schöngen is certain: “Design is the key to everything”.

From this evening many practical tips could already be taken away for the design studies. For example, that a lot of input – and walks – boost creativity.

With this in mind, we wish everyone an inspired start to the new semester!
